General Directions (see markers on the route map)

Point No. 1.) Start and finish the walk at the long stay, pay & display car park on the riverside in Pately Bridge (map ref. SE158655)

Point No. 2.) Turn off the main road through the town (B6265) past the methodist church on the right and up some steps on the left hand side of the road at the sign post marking the "Panorama Walk" (map ref. SE159655). This path is part of the Nidderdale Way.

Point No. 3.) Turn off the lane and the Nidderdale Way at map ref. SE167651 to follow a track on the left up Tenter Hill to a minor road at map ref. SE168656 and turn left to walk along the road to a 'T'-junction.

Point No. 4.) At the junction turn left and walk down the road for 100m then turn right to follow an access track contouring around the hillside through a disused quarry area to a minor road at map ref. SE158669.

Point No. 5.) Turn left to follow the road down the hill to Wath and cross the road bridge over the River Nidd at map ref. SE144677.

Point No. 6.) Opposite the bridge take the footpath straight up the hillside to a minor road at map ref. SE139672, turn right at the road and after 250m turn left into Highfield following the Nidderdale Way route. Continue along the Nidderdale Way route through Spring House farm to the access road along Ashfold Side at map ref. SE138663.

Point No. 7.) Follow the access road/track up Ashfold Side for 2km to some old lead mine working on the right across the beck. Here the Nidderdale Way crosses the beck (map ref. SE119661).

Point No. 8.) Leave the Nidderdale Way route and continue along the north bank of the beck. There is no specific public footpath but the area is open access land (CRoW) and there is a path on the north bank of the beck.

Point No. 9.) After another 1km there is a waterfall on the beck at map ref. SE108660. Cross the beck above the waterfall and follow the access track east and south to Near Hardcastle.

Point No. 10.) At Near Hardcastle turn left and left again after 50m to drop down to Sun Side to rejoin the Nidderdale Way route at map ref. SE120657. Follow the Nidderdale Way route for 2.7km along the access track/road to map ref. SE146654.

Point No.11.) At map ref. SE146654, about 100m before reaching the woodland on the right hand side of the road, turn left off the road to follow a public footpath across the fields back to Pateley Bridge. Follow the main road (B6265) across the river to the car park on the right hand side and the end of the walk.
