General Directions (see markers on the route map)

1.) Start from the public car park at the Fewston Reservoir dam and the head of Swinsty Reservoir at map ref. SE187538. From the car park follow the track down to Swinsty Reservoir below Swinsty Hall at map ref. SE194532. Turn right onto the track up the side of the hall and at the edge of the woods take the path across the fields to the village of Timble.

2.) Follow the road through Timble to the cross roads at map ref. SE170530. Continue straight across the crossroads and follow the track and then the path through the plantation to the edge of the woodland at map ref. SE150526. From the edge of the woodland follow the track out to Heligar Pike at map ref. SE137521.

3.) From Heligar Pike take the path to Gawk Hill Gate (map ref. SE133530) and continue along the path to Round Hill. Here go through the pedestrian gate (map ref. SE121535) through the wall just beyond the summit and follow the bridleway down to the main road (A59) at map ref. SE124549.

4.) Cross the main road (A59) and take the track heading northeast to join a minor road after about 1km at map ref. SE134554. Continue along this road for a little over 2km to map ref. SE143566. Here turn right off the road to follow the path past Redshaw Hall on the right at reach a minor road after 1.3km at map ref. SE155568.

5.) At the road turn left and walk along the road for about 600m to a junction. Here turn right and follow the road for about 400m to the dam of Thruscross Reservoir and the public car park. Take the path from the car park down to the River Washburn. Follow the track by the river and cross the river by the bridge at map ref. SE157569. Continue by the riverside and then take the path up the valley side to the road at Hardisty Hill, map ref. SE169562.

6.) At the road turn right and walk south along the road for about 350m to map ref. SE169558. Here take the track on the left and after about 400m continue on the path across the fields to the main road (A59) at map ref. SE176553. Cross the main road to the large lay-by opposite and take the footpath from the lay-by through the woods to the permissive path around Fewston Reservoir. Follow the parmissive path around the reservoir to the dam at map ref. SE188543. Follow the road across the dam and back to the car park at the far end of the dam to complete the walk.
