General Directions (see markers on the route map)

.) Start at the tiny rough car park at map ref. SD971888, off the main street in the village of Thornton Rust. From the car park head south over the ford across West Beck and continue along the walled track for about 80m. Here turn left off the track to follow a public footpath across the small walled fields for about 350m to pass St Mary's Well. Continue along this footpath over the walled fields and across the little valley of Gill Beck to reach Flout Moor Lane, a walled track. At the lane turn right and walk along the lane for about 350m to map ref. SD981874.

.) At this point, turn left off Flout Moor Lane to cross a stile into a field. It is not open access land but access is permitted to follow the track along the rather wet field for about 200m to a large neolithic earthwork, a henge called Castle Dykes. There is an information board at the site. Return to Flout Moor Lane and turn right to walk eastwards along the lane for about 1.3km to a junction at map ref. SD994878. At the junction turn right and walk along Folly Lane for about 1km across Haw Beck to the junction with Haw Lane at map ref. SD995868.

.) At the junction with Haw Lane turn right and follow the walled track of Haw Lane and then continue along the bridleway, now called Stake Road, across the fields to the junction with Busk Lane, another walled track. This junction is about 6.5km from the turning on to Haw Lane. At the junction with Busk Lane turn right to follow Busk Lane for about 2.5km to the hamlet of Carpley Green.

.) Just beyond the hamlet of Carpley Green at map ref. SD943873, turn right off the road to follow a bridleway around the base of Addlebrough and across Thornton Rust Moor for about 3km to a walled track at map ref. SD967883. Follow this walled track for about 500m to cross the ford over West Beck and return to the car park on the edge of Thornton Rust village and the end of the walk.
