General Directions (see markers on the route map)

.) Start at map ref. SD692759 about 3km north from Ingleton where a stony access track joins the road along Kingsdale. There's room to park off the road in the access track. From the access track turn left and walk about 100m along the road. Then at a left hand bend in the road, turn right off the road to follow a footpath climbing directly straight up the hillside for about 1km to the Turbary Road, an old green road. At the Turbary Road turn left and follow it for about 700m to map ref. SD680767. Turn right here off the Turbary Road and follow a path across the rough pasture (open access land) to the field boundary at the top of the slope. Cross the field boundary taking care not to damage it and then turn right to follow the wall climbing up the fell for a little over 2km to the summit of Gregareth (627m) at map ref. SD688793.

.) From the trig point on Gregareth continue following the wall along the ridge foe a little over 3km to map ref. SD702823. This is about 400m befor the county boundary running along the ridge reaches the "County Stone", the old marker of the boundary between the North Riding of Yorkshire(now North Yorkshire), Lancashire and Westmorland(now Cumbria).

.) At Map ref SD702823 turn right off the ridge and follow the field boundary wall down to an old green road at Blea Gills. At the green road (badly rutted by off road vehicles) turn right and follow the green road for about 2.5km out to the Ingleton to Dent road at the head of Kingsdale, map ref. SD723822. At the road turn right and follow the road for about 350m, then turn left off the road to follow a path straight up the hillside to the trig point on the summit of Whernside (736m) at map ref. SD738814.

.) From the trig point at the top of Whernside head south west along the ridge for about 6km to Twisleton Scar End and follow the steep path down to a stony access track at map ref. SD699753. At the access track turnright and walk along the access track for about 800m back to the starting point at the parking spot next to the Ingleton to Dent road in Kingsdale.
