General Directions (see markers on the route map)

Point No.1.) Start at the small parking area at Moor Gate, map ref. SE540916. Just across the cattle grid 2km north of Hawnby on the narrow road to Osmotherley, turn right to the parking area by an ash tree between two tracks. From here walk back across the cattle grid and take the public footpath on the right. After 150m turn left to follow a permissive path straight up the end of Hawnby Hill to the ridge. Follow the ridge to the southern end of the hill and drop down to join a public footpath into Hawnby village at map ref. SE.542897.

Point No.2.) Follow the road down the hill to the River Rye. Turn right off the road to follow a public footpath by the river heading southeast for 800m, then sharp right turn to the road at map ref. SE550887. Cross the road and continue straight up the hill to the track in Cliff Wood. Turn left to walk along the track for 1.2km to a junction in the track. Turn left to go down the hill by-passing Shaken Bridge farm to reach the road and Shaken Bridge at map ref. SE560883.

Point No.3.) Cross the bridge and turn left off the road to climb a short path up to an access road. Follow the access road northwards to Fair Hill farm and then follow the public footpath over the fields to cross a footbridge over the River Seph. Follow the path up the hillside to the road at map ref. SE558906.

Point No.4.) At the road turn left then after a few meters turn right off the road up some steps in the bank and follow the public footpath around the base of Easterside Hill and turn left onto a bridleway to the ruins of Crow Nest farm, map ref. SE547914.

Point No.5.) Follow the path from Crow Nest farm down the hillside and through some boggy woods to a footbridge over Ladhill Beck, map ref. SE545916. Follow the path up the hillside, not well defined in places, to the track at map ref. SE541917 and return to the start of the walk.
