General Directions (see markers on the route map)

.) Start at the Saltergate car park on the A169 Pickering to Whitby road at map ref. SE852937. Follow the path beside the road overlooking the Hole-of-Horcum down to the hairpin bend in the road. At the bend tale the foorpath over a stile on the left hand side off the crown of the bend and follow the well worn path down into the Hole-of-Horcum to cross Levisham Beck at map ref. SE845934.

.) From Levisham Beck continue along the path past the building at Low Horcum and follow the path for about 1.5km from Low Horcum to Dundale Griff at map ref. SE838917. Here the stream flowing down Dundale Griff joins Levisham Beck.

.) Where the stream flowing down Dundale Griff joins Levisham Beck turn right away from Levisham Beck to follow the path up Dundale Griff to Dundale Pond at map ref. SE828918. From Dundale Pond follow the path and then the road into Levisham village.

.) In Levisham village turn right in front of the pub (the Horseshoe Inn) and turn right again. After about 80m along this road turn left off the road along a path/track in front of a row of houses for about 60m to another road. Continue along this road for about 150m to a sharp left hand bend at map ref. SE830906. At the bend continue straight on, off the road, on a footpath across the fields. Follow the path down into Newton Dale and out to the road at map ref. SE821912.

.) Walk down the road for about 350m to a sharp left hand bend. Continue straight on off the right hand side of the bend and follow the paths across the marshy moor to Skelton Tower at map ref. SE820928.

.) From Skelton Tower follow the paths around the moorland plateau for about 3.5km and finally up a short steep bank to the hair pin bend on the A169 at map ref. SE849940. At the road retrace the start of the walk back to the car park.
