General Directions (see markers on the route map)

1.) Start at the public car park at the village hall on the Southern edge of Chop Gate in Bilsdale at map ref. SE559993. Cross the main road (B1257) and follow the public footpath up the drive to William Beck farm. Continue past the farm to the track at the edge of the moor at map ref. SE579992. Continue straight across the track following a narrow footpath through the heather down into tripsdale and the cross of Tripsdale Beck.

2.) From Tripsdale Beck where the path joins a wide track continue along the track up the far side of the valley over Slape Wath Moor to Stump Cross at map ref. SE606982. At the remains of the cross turn bear left to follow a narrow path through the heather down to the daleside road. Cross the road and continue down the hillside to Colt House farm. From the farm take the path across the fields to Bransdale Mill next to the beck in the valley bottom.

3.) From the mill continue straight ahead up the valley side to the road at Cow Sike farm. Here turn left and walk along the road for about 120m, then turn right off the road to follow a path climbing up the hillside, around the end of Bloworth Wood and continue up to join the wide track along Rudland Rigg. Follow the track along the rigg past the Cammon Stone to Bloworth crossing at map ref. NZ615015.

4.) At Bloworth Crossing on the old ironstone railway the route joins the Cleveland Way route. Turn left to follow the Cleveland Way route for about 300m along the old railway bed, then follow the Cleveland Way up to Round Hill (map ref. NZ594015) This is the highest point on the North York Moors at 454m.

5.) After Round Hill take the left hand fork in the track to Medd Crag at map ref. NZ573009. Here turn left to follow the path along the edge of the moor overlooking Bilsdale for almost 2km to map ref. SE579992 at the outward path from William Beck Farm. Turn right here to retrace the outward route back to the village hall car park at Chop Gate and the end of the walk.
