General Directions (see markers on the route map)

.) Start from the little parking area under the railway viaduct next to the Beggars Bridge in Glaisedale, map ref. NZ783055, by the River Esk. From the car park head south west to cross Glaisdale Beck and join the bridleway following the River Esk downstream through Arnecliff Wood. The path is an old paved pannierway and after about 1.3km the bridleway leads to a minor road at map ref. NZ793046. At the road turn right to follow the road up a steep hill around the bends for about 250m to a footpath on the left hand side of the road just above Delves farm. Follow this path across the valley of Butter Beck to a farm access track at map ref. NZ796044.

.) At this farm access track turn right to follow the track past Hall Grange Farm and continue along the track for another 2.6km to a right hand bend in the track shortly before Grange Head Farm. At this bend turn left off the track to follow a footpath along an old farm track climbing up the hillside through some boulders marking an ancient field system to join a path on the open moor at map ref. NZ794025.

.) At this path turn left to follow the path heading south west across Egton High Moor. After about 500m the path joins a moorland track and after about 1.4km the path bends round to the right to head westwards still following the moorland track. All along this moorland track there are marker posts that appear on the horizon shortly after passing the previous post. The path emerges from the moor on to a minor road at map ref. NZ761016 by Wintergill Plantation. At the road turn left and walk along the road for about 700m to a bridleway on the right leading through the ruins of Wintergill farm.

.) From Wintergill farm follow the bridleway down the moor for about 2km to a minor road, map ref. NZ751028, at Nab End farm. At the road turn right to walk along the road for about 150m to a footpath on the left hand side of the road just past Nab End farm. Follow this path across the fields to join a bridleway at map ref. NZ757038, and cross Glaisdale Beck. Continue along the bridleway through Plum Tree Farm to a minor road at map ref. NZ753043, at Glaisdale Side. About 50m to the right here there is a quoits court used in the local league. At the road turn left for about 50m and then turn right off the road to follow a bridleway climbing up around the intake wall on to Glaisdale Moor. After about 1km from the road the bridleway reaches the moorland track running along Glaisdale Rigg.

.) At the track along Galaisdale Rigg turn right to follow the track into Glaisdale village. At the road in the village, map ref. NZ774057, turn right and follow the road through the village for about 250m then turn left along a narrow lane dropping down to the River Esk and then to rejoin the road at map ref. NZ781054. At this junction cross the road and take the footpath opposite between the buildings. Follow the path across Glaisdale Beck and back to the parking area under the railway viaduct and the end of the walk.
