From the car park turn right and walk along the road ignoring the right hand fork in the road and continue for about 200m to map ref. NZ 880 052. Turn left here off the road to go through a wooden five-bar gate set back from the road and follow a public footpath contouring around the hillside for about 500m, then dropping down past Low Farm and follow the farm access road out to join a minor road at map ref. NZ 875 057 next to a footbridge on the left over Little Beck. At the minor road turn right and walk along the road following Little Beck on the left hand side of the road for about 200m. Here there is a road bridge across the beck but the route continues ahead along a public footpath still following the beck downstream for another 250m to map ref. NZ 874 061. Turn right here and follow a farm track along the edge of the fields for about 550m to a minor road at map ref. NZ 879 065. At the road turn right and follow the road past the farm/houses at Dean Hall to a road junction at map ref. NZ 884 062. At the junction turn left and continue along the road for about 750m, past the caravan site at Lound House to the junction with the B1416 at map ref. NZ 891 064. At the junction turn right for about 80m then turn left off the B1416 to follow a public footpath initially along a farm track heading eastwards along the edge of the fields for about 1.5km to the road in Sneatonthorpe at map ref. NZ 907 061. At the road turn right and walk along the road for about 70m. After about 60m there is a public footpath sign on the right next to the overgrown hedge and no obvious way through. About 10m further on there is a second public footpath sign almost lost in the overgrown hedge but there is a clear path through the hedge. Turn right here opposite some farm buildings to follow the public footpath along the field edges for about 700m to a minor road at map ref. NZ 913 061. At the road turn left to follow the road for about 400m past the caravan site at Rigg Farm to a sharp left hand bend in the road. On entering the open access land bear right and follow a public footpath heading first southwards for 800m, then south west for 1.4km to the B1416 at map ref. NZ 907 039. Cross the road and continue along the public footpath on the other side following the boundary fence at the western edge of the moorland for about 3.8km to map ref. NZ 898 016, where there is a pedestrian gate to a path running parallel to the fence but inside the forest for about 300m to a bridge across the beck leading to the ruins of John Bond's Sheep House at map ref. NZ 898 014. From these ruins continue down the valley following the path that criss-crosses the beck for about 1.2km to the car park area at May Beck.
