We had left the cottage this morning and drove to the Cod Beck car park at the end of Cod Beck reservoir (map ref. SE 467992) about 1.5km north of Osmotherley.

We had had a weekend break in a cottage at Laskill with two of my wife's sisters and their husbands. They had to go home yesterday evening.

In another 200m we had joined the Cleveland Way at map ref. NZ 470002. We turned left to follow the Cleveland Way to the edge of Arncliffe wood at map ref. SE 461999.

From the car park we followed the road northwards toward Scarth Nick. About 200m before we reached Scarth Nick we turned left off the road on to a path across the moor to cut a little corner off and avoid dropping down the hill just to climb up again.

We had planned to get a coffee in the village but it was a Monday in March and Osmotherley was shut (except for the toilets which are very clean and have won lots of awards).

We walked through the pedestrian gates into the wood and continued along the Cleveland Way to the end of the wood at map ref. SE 453986 where the path joins a track which we followed into Osmotherley.

We continued on the Cleveland Way which leaves the main street in Osmotherley via an alley way through the houses. It crosses some fields and then drops down to cross the little valley with Cod Beck in the bottom. Once we had climbed up the other side we joined a walled track at map ref. SE 464970.

We followed the track through the woods for about 500m and then turned left to follow another track down thr hillside through the woods to the edge of the reservoir.

At the track we turned left to leave the Cleveland Way and head north along the track for about 1km to the edge of the woods at map ref. SE 467980.

The path then led us out of the wood and across Cod Beck back to the car park where we had started. The whole route had been about 10km and had taken us about four hours to walk.

There is a well maintained gravel path around the edge of the reservoir and we followed this path along the water's edge to the top end of the reservoir.
