Footpath from the car park near Lowna
|
The
weather forecast for today was very good with clear skies
and bright sunshine so I was a bit disappointed to open
the curtains to grey skies and drizzle. We set off anyway
and drove to a tiny car park at Lowna in Farndale at map
ref. SE 685910. By the time we arrived at about 9.50am the
weather was starting to clear. We took the path following
the River Dove upstream to map ref. SE 682925, where we
turned left to follow the path up the valley side to the
road at map ref. SE 676926. The weather was now just as
forecast with brilliant blue sky and the low winter sun
picking out all the red and orange and yellow shades in
the foliage. We crossed the road and followed the track
across the moor to cross Harland Beck and come out onto
a lane at map ref. SE 662920. |
| We
turned left on to the lane for about 200m and then turned
right to follow a footpath along a farm road, through the
farm yard (lots of chained up collies), through some woodland
and across the fields to the lane near Penny Holme at map
ref. SE 647910. At the lane we turned away from Penny Holme
and walked along the lane for about 1km to map ref. SE 655901.
We turned left off the lane on to a path across the fields
to join a lane at map ref. SE 660913. We walked along the
lane (right at the junction) for about 500m to map ref.
SE 667911 where we turned left off the road on to a path
across the fields which we followed for about 1.5km past
Faddell Rigg to the road at map ref. SE 682908. We turned
left on to the road and followed it for about 350m back
to the car park at Lowna. The whole route had been almost
13km and had taken us about 4 hours to walk including a
stop for lunch. |
