Aysgarth Middle Falls
This morning two of my friends called for me at about half past nine and we drove up to Aysgarth Falls in Wensleydale We parked in the car park by the tourist information office (in the old railway station) at map ref. SE 011887. We set off walking at about 10.45am along the path towards the Middle and Lower Falls. We continued along this path beyond Hollins House farm towards High Thoresby. At map ref. SE 023898 the path through High Thoresby to Castle Bolton, goes over a stile but we turned right to follow another path alongside the wall to join a walled track at map ref. SE 031900. We followed this track until it became a tarmac lane and continued along the lane into Redmire. At the cross roads in Redmire (map ref. SE 046909) we took the lane heading south east and almost at once turned right onto a walled track.
After about 400m, at map ref. SE 050906 we turned off the track over a stile to follow a footpath across the fields to the wood at map ref. SE 059901. We followed the path trough the woodland to Bolton Hall at map ref. SE 073896 and here we turned right to cross the River Ure on Lord's Bridge. Once across the bridge we turned right again onto the river side path heading upstream. We followed the river for about 5km to the main road at map ref. SE 026889. We crossed Bishopdale Beck on the road bridge and turned off the road onto the river side path again at map ref. SE 024888. The path took us back into Aysgarth past the church and we returned to the car park on the footpath from the road bridge over the river. The whole route had been about 15km and had taken us 5 hours to walk including a couple of refreshment stops.
