Bridleway along the top of Caulkley's Bank
We
set off eastwards at about 1.30pm on the bridleway along
the top of the bank, and continued on the bridleway
for almost 3km to West Ness, map ref. SE 689790.
|
This afternoon we drove to the top of Caulkleys Bank, map
ref. SE 699782 about 1.5km south of Nunnington.

We followed the
road down to the river Rye at map ref. SE 687793 and turned left off
the road to follow the path upstream, beside the river. We walked
by the river for about 2.5km until we reached Nunnington. The path
emerged on to the road at map ref. SE 669792, that's about 200m south
of the point shown on the map because the path has been diverted -
it used to cut across the corner of a garden and come out down a drive,
now it goes across a field directly onto the road. I think it's much
better for everyone. We crossed the road and took the path opposite
across the fields to map ref SE 666790. The path was not well marked
and seemed little used - it would have been easier to walk round the
road. From the cross roads by the church we took the bridleway back
to Caulkleys Bank about 1km on a track across the fields, and then
about 400m along the top of the bank back to the car. It had been
a very pleasant afternoon walk of about 7km which took us almost 2
hours including a very pleasant sit in the sun on the seat by the
weir at map ref. SE 673794
