Poultry on the grass verge opposite the car park in Hutton-le-Hole
We followed the path through the gate to an access road
on Hutton Ridge at map ref. SE706913. We followed the
road for about 300m and where the road bore left to Spaunton
Lodge, we carried straight on along a footpath for just
over 1 km to map ref. SE705930.
|
This
morning we met a group of friends in the car park at Hutton-le-Hole,
map ref. SE705903 at 10.30 am. We crossed the road from
the car park and turned right to walk about 150m along
the wide grass verge to a pedestrian gate on to the open
moor.

Track from Hutton Ridge towards Rosedale Chimney
At
this point we split into two groups. The fit group set
off into Rosedale to make their way round to Appleton-le-Moors
and back to Hutton-le-Hole, just 21km.
|
Here we turned right to follow a track and then a path
across the moor to the road at map ref. SE717939. At the
road we turned left to walk along the road to the top
of Rosedale Chimney bank at map ref. SE720945.

Approaching
Lastingham
From the
cross we took the track heading roughly south for about
3.5km to Lastingham.
|
There
is a nice path up from Hartoft End to Lastingham and back
to Hutton-le-Hole making a route of 15km, but they went
for the epic route. I was quite jealous. The
wimps group with me turned right off the road to follow
the track to Anna Cross at map ref. SE724938.

The church in Lastingham
They
were a great sight. We continued along the road for about
a kilometre to map ref. SE713904 where we turned left
off the road to walk along a path across the fields to
the village street in Hutton-le-Hole.
|
We
walked through the village past the church on our left
and just at this point a carriage and team of four magnificent
matched black stallions came trotting along the road.

A fine bull we met in the field next to the village
That
left my wife and me to finish the walk with a cup of tea
and a toasted teacake in a cafe in the village. The whole
route had been 12km and had taken us (well me really)
around four and a half hours to walk.
|
We
walked up the village street back to the car park. The
other two couples with us had to get away early, which
is why they did the wimps route with me.
