After about 400m they turned left, then right following the lane and then a footpath across the fields first to High Metham and then to Low Metham Grange before reaching a minor road at map ref. SE815261 about 3km from their starting point in Laxton.

Today two friends of mine, John and Tom, drove to the village of Laxton at map ref. SE787256 near Saltmarshe railway station about 5km East of Goole. They set off to walk eastwards along the village street.

After about 2km they came to a sharp left hand bend in the road. Just before the bend they turned right off the road on to a bridleway heading southwards.

At the road they turned left to walk along the road for about 1.5km to a road junction at map ref. SE814276. Here they turned right to walk along Bellasize Lane.

They followed the bridleway southwards for about 4km to the village of Blacktoft on the North bank of the River Ouse at map ref. SE841242.

At Saltmarshe they left the Trans Pennine Trail and turned right to walk along the road Northwards for almost 2km back to their starting point in Laxton. The whole route had been 19km and it had taken them about five and a quarter hours to walk including refreshment stops, but they are both pretty fit. Thanks John for this contribution.
