The car park was at the top of the bank, on the Hambleton Drove Road at map ref. SE 510 877. From the car park entrance we turned right and began to walk back down the bank towards Boltby. After about 250m the road turned to our right and then after another 100m it turned left. On the outside of this second turn is an entrance where the Cleveland Way goes into Boltby Forest.

The weather forecast this morning did not expect any rain on our intended walking route although is was expected to be cloudy with a few sunny breaks later in the morning. Strong winds were expected. This was good enough for us and my friend Jim and I drove out through Boltby and up Boltby Bank, officially it is called Sneck Yate Bank. We stopped at the little car park called Sneck Yate car park.

Here we came to a gate onto the access road to High Paradise Farm. We joined the road just above Low Paradise Farm. From the gate onto the road there was a lovely view down the valley with various becks leading down to Sutton-Under-Whitestone-Cliff and out to the blue horizon on the distant Pennine Hills.

We turned right here turning off the road to follow the Cleveland Way through part of Boltby Forest towards High Paradise Farm. Just as forecast there were strong winds now swaying the whole forest canopy above us. We continued along the Cleveland Way for about 1km from Sneck Yate Bank.

Once the horse and rider had passed us I managed to get a photo of them. We continued up the access road round a right hand bend to High Paradise Farm. The farm had long since diversified into tourism with B&B, and now weddings and a tea room (but not open early enough for us). Next to the farm buildings there was a field full of goats.

We followed the road climbing up towards High Paradise Farm. A few hundred metres from the farm a lady rider came down the hill towards us. The horse was clearly uneasy about us and we kept as close in to the edge of the road as we could. The horse seemed to be close to rearing up but the rider was clearly used to it and managed to keep things under control.

We walked along this bridleway for about 750m to the corner of the moorland field. From the field corner there were bridleways in each of the four main compass points. We turned right through a field gate and followed a bridleway heading southwards along the edge of the field.

We passed through the farm and followed the access road out to the Hambleton Drove Road. At the Drove Road the Cleveland Way turned left to continue along the Drove Road. We crossed the Drove Road and followed a bridleway opposite heading east along side a dry stone wall on our right.

After almost 500m we came to a finger post indicating the bridleway turning to our left. We followed the bridleway up a slope for about 75m to a pedestrian gate onto the road opposite Silver Hill Farm.

After about 250m there was a gap in the hedge on our left and the bridleway crossed the hedge and continued along the edge of this field now with the hedge on our right. There was a wide grassy track here with numerous pheasants pecking at the corn strewn around for them.

The whole route had been about 4.2km and it had taken me almost two and a half hours to walk it. My friend Jim is very patient and frequently waits of me to catch up. I think he finds it impossible to walk a slowly as I do!

At the road we turned right and walked along the road for about 600m back to the junction with the Hambleton Drove Road at the Sneck Yate car park and the end of our walk.
